| Invitation to Apply for AARP International Innovative Employer Award At a time when demographic change means the percentage of workers aged 25 to 44 is declining, older adults are becoming a more important component of the global workforce than ever before - a fact that forward thinking employers are recognising and implementing policies to address. Over the past eight years the US based AARP has run an award programme for organisations in the United States with the best HR policies for employees aged 50+. TAEN – The Age and Employment Network is now linking with the AARP (the world’s largest non-profit organisation) to provide UK employers with the chance to enter a new international version - the AARP International Innovative Employer Award. There will be an award specifically for UK employers. It is intended to recognise employers who have demonstrated innovative workforce or human resources policies and practices that address issues relevant to employees of all ages but in particular to those in mid and later work life. Successful organisations will receive an invitation to the prestigious awards ceremony in Chicago on 6th October 2008. International recognition and an increased public profile will be just two of the hallmarks of achievement. In this the first year of its new International Innovative Employer Award, the AARP is linking with TAEN and other similar organisations in Singapore, Germany and Japan, to found a multinational award that allows age positive policies to be show-cased in a genuinely global context. The deadline for receipt of applications has been extended to 8 May 2008. Applications must be made online by linking to the AARP website. For information or advice from TAEN contact us on info@taen.org.uk
The AARP was launched as the American Association of Retired Persons, though as its membership now comprises retired and employed people, the long name is no longer used. The AARP is now an international non profit organisation providing a wide range of services for its 30 million plus members. The current award attracts huge interest with US and other organisations recognising the marketing and corporate image benefits it brings and welcoming the media exposure that accompanies success.
